AMC Necton Gymnastics club
Was started on the 30th of September 2010 after a need was established in the area of Necton Norfolk. Miss Anne-Marrie Cooke has been coaching in Women's artistic gymnastics for over 5 years now. She worked with the Easton Gymnastics Club as a volunteer coach on Mondays and Fridays. Anne-Marrie also runs AMC Gymnastic services, which offers coaching to local schools in the area to promote gymnastics. It was through this that distance to any club was a major negative in the area. Travel to the nearest British gymnastics clubs was Easton in Norwich, Kings Lynn, and Wymondham.
With so many children not being able to get places on the after school club session, and or giving up as they could not travel the distances required or the waiting lists were so long to get a place.
A number of parents were approached to see if they would be willing to form a committee and start the club we now have. Anne-Marrie also approached other coaches that would be willing to travel to the venue and secured 2 further coaches.
We have started with 9 members in the main club and 14 in the after school club, and with the website up and local advertising kicking in a small but steady stream of requests are being received on a regular basis. And with the help of the school and AMC Gymnastic services, we have all the basic kit needed to cover the skills base of the gymnasts we have.
With the growth of the skills of the gymnasts we will be constantly having to buy new and more advanced equipment, so the use of club fee's, grants, fund-raising etc, we have excellent growth potential.
All staff at the club that have not already got the skills required are being booked on courses as quickly as they become available, this is a mammoth and costly exercise for the club and volunteers it involves. But such is the resolve of all those involved with the club for it to succeed we are finding the money and time to meet our agreed goals and legal requirement.
The coaching team is headed by Anne-Marrie Cooke, a level 3 cycle 6 British Gymnastics Registered Coach. And is supported by a schools cluster gymnastics coach, and a level 1 Women's artistic coach ( when required).
we have now just taken on a trainee coach who is training to take her level 1 coaching exam. this is being backed up by another of our coaches taking an update to her exsiting award. and Anne-Marrie in the process of her llevel 1 men's artistic. These will be followed by her level 2 men's fundermental`s and pre-school awards.
This is all being supported by or back room staff / committe who are learning and taking courses in child protection, welfare, equity in coaching. All these things cost money and the club is most greatful to these volenteers who are often paying for these course as the club does not have the finances yet to achieve them as quickly with out this support. We have just achieved the standard of Norfolk Gymnastics Association and are pleased to have become a member of such a prestigus Association.
Because of this we have now been invited to join Eastern Counties Gymnastics Association allowing our gymnasts to compete at national levels.
Thanks to the Swaffham and Watton times for there right up, and the local parish magaines we have doubled our membership since opening, and we have been invited to talk onWayland local radio about our club and the Sports Unlimited course we have running. the Sports Unlimited funding was arranged by AMC Gymnastic Services and our great friends at Active Norfolk.
